Senior Footballers win first round of Leinster Championship!

Senior Footballers win first round of Leinster Championship!

Well done to our Senior football team who defeated Rathangan in the first round of the Leinster Schools championship today! Scoring a goal in the third quarter proved the big difference in a very competitive match played in the Hurling Club in bitter cold conditions.

Winning a championship game is not easy and the team has now got more confidence as a result of this win as well as resilience having had to work so hard for the entire game. 21 players were used which indicates the need for a strong panel and well done to all the players as they upped the performance in the second half. The half time chat certainly laid the basis for the win as the players refocussed and really took the game to Rathangan scoring the goal through the boot of sub Cian Cleary and 3 minutes later Ricky Lawler made a super save in the goal. James Doogue pointed from 38 metres a few minutes later to put us 4 points up. The team did not sit on their laurels and instead matched the increased pace and power of Rathangan to power through to a deserved win.

The team plays next weekend in the Carlow 'A' final and the following week they play the second round of the Leinster Championship in an away game to Kilcock.

The panel will be aware that there is plenty of room to improve their performance and with 21 players playing today there is no doubt that there are no certain spots on the team! Well done to all!
