- An Edmund Rice School

Welcome to our school

"Children of any faith, or none, at every level of ability, of any nationality, or ethnic grouping, are welcome in our school. Our school recognises the uniqueness of each individual in caring communities where holistic development is nurtured."

Edmund Rice Schools Trust

St. Mary’s Academy CBS has been an integral part of the educational landscape in Carlow for over 160 years. Since 1863, our school has been providing education for boys and young men in the tradition of our founder, Blessed Edmund Rice. Each day, students in our school join over 37,000 other students across 96 schools under the stewardship of the Edmund Rice School Trust.

Our school is guided by the vision and mission of Blessed Edmund Rice.

Student-focused teaching and learning is at the core of our school, allowing students to develop and thrive as young citizens, innovators and leaders in a caring and encouraging environment.

Social awareness is also central to what our school is all about. We want students to leave school with a strong sense of social justice, concern for people less fortunate and care for the environment.
